AIR QUALITY ASSESMENT

Location: Manchester
Background:

PEC were contacted by the builders to produce an air quality assessment as the site was located within an area identified by Manchester City Council as experiencing elevated pollutant concentrations. Subsequently, the Proposed Development had potential to introduce future users to poor air quality as well as, to cause impacts during the construction and operational phases. An Air Quality Assessment was therefore required to determine the baseline conditions at the site, assess site suitability for the proposed end-use and consider effects as a result of the development.

Planning Condition:

The application site was located within an area, identified by the Manchester City Council as experiencing elevated pollutant concentrations. Subsequently, the Proposed Development had potential to introduce future users to poor air quality as well as, to cause impacts during the construction and operational phases. A detailed Air Quality Assessment, including dispersion modelling, was therefore required to determine the baseline conditions at the site, assess site suitability for the proposed end-use and consider effects as a result of the development.

Resolution:

An air quality assessment was carried out following national legislation and guidance including from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM).

As part of the assessment, a dispersion model was completed identifying sensitive receptors surrounding the site and qualifying the potential impact changes to these receptors.

Air Quality Assessment
Outcome:

The client appreciated our ongoing professionalism and communication as this assessment was part of a series of assessments completed throughout the multiple phases of this redevelopment for which planning was approved in August 2023.
